Happy Apocalypse Day

On behalf of the Global Catastrophic Risk Institute, I would like to wish you all a happy apocalypse day. As you most likely already know, today, 21 December 2012, is the day that some people have misinterpreted as being the day that the world ends. While the skies are very cloudy here in New York City, I am otherwise pleased to report that the world has not actually ended.

While the threat of apocalypse today could be easily dismissed, the overall ongoing threat of global catastrophe is very much real. Nuclear war, infectious disease outbreak, environmental degradation, and emerging technology disaster are all among the forces that have the potential to disrupt or even end global human civilization.

Fortunately, there are positive, productive ways in which we can help to understand and address global catastrophic risks. GCRI is helping lead the way through research, education, and professional networking. You can help out by getting involved if you are a GCR researcher or professional, by donating, by joining our newsletter, Twitter, Facebook, or LinkeIn, and by helping spread the word to others who may be interested.

Have a wonderful day!
