Get Involved

Supporting the community of people concerned about global catastrophic risk is one of GCRI’s primary goals. Global catastrophic risk is a complex, multifaceted issue that benefits from the involvement of a diverse group of people with different backgrounds, experiences, and areas of expertise. We aim to foster an interconnected, international community of people working together to reduce the risk of global catastrophe.

The primary way to get involved in GCRI is through our annual Advising and Collaboration Program. To stay informed about the Advising and Collaboration Program and other opportunities, please subscribe to our newsletter or follow our blog.

You are also welcome to contact GCRI at any time outside the context of our advising and collaboration program. We may have limited capacity to engage with ad hoc inquiries, but we are always happy to hear from interested people. Please send inquiries to Seth Baum, seth [at] gcrinstitute.org.

If you are interested in global catastrophic risk or would like to learn more about GCRI’s work, you can start by looking at our publications or reading about the topics we work on.

Advising and Collaboration Program

The GCRI Advising and Collaboration Program is the primary way people can get involved with GCRI. The program welcomes people at all career points who are interested in our advice or in collaborating on projects with us. The program is informal and does not require a significant time commitment.

The program runs each year at irregular intervals. Please keep an eye out for announcements about future rounds of the program on the GCRI website. GCRI is committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming global catastrophic risk community and encourages people belonging to underrepresented groups to apply to the program. For details on GCRI’s collaborative work, see Collaborative Publishing with GCRI.

In Common Points of Advice for Students and Early-Career Professionals Interested in Global Catastrophic Risk, GCRI Executive Director Seth Baum shares advice based on his experience advising people in the GCRI Advising and Collaboration Program.

For testimonials about the GCRI Advising and Collaboration Program, see 2021 Advising and Collaboration Program Testimonials from six participants from the 2021 program and My Experience With The GCRI Advising/Collaboration Program by Jia Yuan Loke from the 2019 program.

Fellowship Program

The GCRI Fellowship Program recognizes a select group of individuals who make exceptional contributions to addressing global catastrophic risk in collaboration with GCRI during a calendar year.

The GCRI Fellowship Program does not accept applications. Instead, it serves to recognize people who collaborate on projects with GCRI. The primary way for people who are interested in collaborating with GCRI is via the Advising and Collaboration Program.
